Mickeywas adopted in October 1998.
Tasha was taking my dads shopping at her favorite pet store
where it happened to be cat adoption day. My dad
had just returned from the inaugural sailing on the Disney
Wonder®, as he entered the store they noticed one little
kitten had a hidden Mickey, they knew that fate brought them
together and they had to take him home.
Tasha
immediately fell in love with Mickey, they used to love to
cuddle on the sofa. They were always together in the
house, and unlike me who refuses to share my toys with Ariel,
they would play together for hours. Mickey was taken from
our family far too early. He crossed the bridge in
November 2004, the same day Tasha went under surgery for a minor
medical issue. Now they both are playing all day again, and they
are waiting for us over the Rainbow Bridge.
Grand-Daughter
of Ch. Silverhall Soldier O' Fortune, a buff American Cocker Spaniel,
Toys
Tasha Yar
was born
on New Year's Day, 1998 in Braintree, Massachusetts. She was
brought into our family as a trainedservice animal
and companion for my dad, Gordon. She did her job extremely
well and was loved by everyone she met. Tasha was eventually
trained in 19 different tasks and helped Gordon in his daily life in so
many ways, including saving him from injury and embarrassment.
As a service animal Tasha was welcomed everywhere she went,
Including all Disney resorts, parks and cruise line.
Tasha
received her AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification in November
1999, passing with
flying colors!
My dad
worshiped Tasha, and
she worshiped him. She always made everyone she met
smile. She loved everyone and everything she owned,
especially her family and her "kittie" Mickey. Tasha loved to go
shopping! When selecting a new toy, my dad had to hold it up
so she could sniff,
she would either grab the item or pushed it
away. Based on her response he would buy it for her.
(this is fun for me too!)
Tasha was
a fun, outgoing American Cocker Spaniel, she was extremely well behaved
and always wanted to please everyone she met. Yet if she was
"working" she would only focus on my dad, it was only with his
permission that she would be told "release" and at that
point she would wiggle her tail as she met new people. (I'm
still working on this, it is so hard!)
As a service animal Tasha was
able to travel all over the world, on airlines, cruises, hotels
and even railroads. Having her own passport she always carried
her necessary paper work along with the required health certificates, she was never
denied access. She loved to travel, she was always by his side,
giving him the comfort to continue to explore our world feeling
secure that he had someone to watch over him.
Her
favorite destination was always Disney. No matter if she
was visiting Disneyland®, Walt Disney World® or sailing on the Disney
Cruise Line®, Tasha was always at home. She loved meeting
all of the Disney characters, her favorite was of course Mickey
Mouse. To honor her memory and my dad's
passion for anything Disney, this site was built from her love.

Tasha Yar crossed
the Rainbow Bridge on October 23rd, 2009. She left a huge hole
in his heart that I'm hoping to fill.
IN GRATITUDE FOR HER SERVICE... TASHA 2.0
Tasha 2.0 on
YouTube!
I'mTasha 2.0
I'm not an upgrade, (you can't upgrade perfection) I'm a new
version!. Hey if Microsoft can do it why can't we? I was
born on September 27th, 2009, but did not meet my new family until
November 28th, 2009, just four weeks after dad's beloved Tasha
crossed the rainbow bridge. My dad had already planned on adding
me to their family before loosing Tasha, so when I came into their life,
they wanted to honor Tasha's memory by naming name me Tasha 2.0.
I am trying to
fill the void that Tasha left in my dads lives, although I'm totally
different than Tasha, I am certainly the evil sister! I already
have them under my paw. Like Tasha, I am learning fast on how to
make them do what I want, (they never had a chance with my eyes!), when
I want, even if it means they have to drop everything!
I've completed my AKC STAR PUPPY certificate with
flying colors and I am now in training for my AKC Canine Good Citizen
Certificate. I have big paws to fill and I'm doing my very best to
help take care of my dads.
I am in training as a service animal and companion
for Gordon, I already help with chores, like "sweeping" the floor for
any tidbits he drops while cooking, that's my favorite activity and I
also love to chase the vacuum, just to make sure it does not suck up my
toys! I am becoming a loving velcro dog. I can now open
the refrigerator, grab and bring a small bottle of water from the bottom
shelf to my dad, when he just says the word "water." And most
importantly, I can sense a seizure or low blood sugar coming on and I
can warn Gordon to lie down in a safe place. When it's over I
comfort him, he tells me just knowing I am there makes him feel better.
In December, 2011,
my dad and I took a trip to Vermont to learn to decorate holiday cookies
at the King Arthur Flour kitchens in Norwich Vermont. We stayed at
a lovely bed & breakfast where they now allow dogs, and more than
welcoming me to the Inn. Cookie decorating was so hard for me,
smelling all those fresh baked cookies, sugar and other great
ingredients made me want some. But wanting to be on my best
behavior I waited until we got back in the car with our fresh cookies
before I started up with those puppy eyes I have, who could say no?
My dad says I was a great "ambassador" for service dogs everywhere.
I'm looking
forward to my first visit to Disney. If all goes well we will be
sailing on a 5-night New England cruise on the Disney Magic® in the fall of 2012, we will be staying in the Royal
Suite! I'll keep you posted on that. Check out the rest of
our site, there is lots of information on Mickey's world.
MY OWNER - GORDON - MCC (He thinks he's the boss)
Gordon is now
retired after spending more than 45 years in the travel industry.
Although disabled since birth, that never stopped him from his dream
of seeing the world. When he was born, way back when, he began
having seizures every few weeks, thankfully he outgrew the seizures
and was able after graduating college to go to work for Pan Am.
After surviving an airline
accident, the "Crash of the Century",
(Pan Am / KLM, March 27, 1997) Gordon continued to work. First by
moving into reservations for Pan Am, and later by opening his own travel
agency in Braintree, Massachusetts. Although he continued to
travel, it wasn't as much as when he loved working for Pan Am, he
realized it would continue to become difficult and eventually sold his
business and retired.
Staying at home alone was not
appealing, a friend suggested that he get a service dog and it wasn't
long before Tasha came into his life. After some training and
small excursions both were ready for their first Disney adventure, the
inaugural sailing onboard the Disney Wonder. After the warm
welcome Tasha received from the crew and cast members at Walt Disney
World, Tasha was hooked.
You can see that Gordon's love for
Tasha, Disney and travel is spread throughout this site, it's a real
labor of love. I hope you'll look around, check out what's the
latest on Disney, and even begin planning your next Disney vacation.
Be sure to tell your friends and your Disney Vacation Planner, we're
happy to see you!
